Promoting Healthy Eating and Packed Lunch Guidance

At All Saints, we are committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of all our students. As part of this commitment, we would share some guidance around healthy eating and provide support for preparing balanced and nutritious packed lunches.

Adolescence is a vital stage of growth and development, and healthy eating plays a key role in helping young people perform well in school, stay focused, and maintain energy throughout the day. To encourage good habits, we ask all parents and carers to consider the guidelines below when preparing packed lunches.

Healthy Packed Lunch Guidelines

  • A source of protein (e.g. lean meats, fish, eggs, beans, or tofu)
  • Whole grain carbohydrates (e.g. wholemeal bread, wraps, pasta, or rice)
  • At least one portion of fruit and one portion of vegetables
  • A dairy or calcium-rich food (e.g. yoghurt, cheese, or plant-based alternatives)
  • Water or milk as a drink (please avoid sugary drinks)

Foods to Avoid in Packed Lunches

  • Confectionery such as chocolate bars and sweets
  • Crisps (or provide a healthier alternative such as rice cakes or popcorn)
  • Fizzy drinks or high-sugar squash
  • Large cakes or pastries – an occasional small treat is acceptable

In addition, please see guidance offered online or in the attached pdf. by the NHS which presents quick and easy ideas for incorporating healthy snacks and foods into your child’s packed lunch.
