Lent at All Saints
“Lent is a time of truth. Christians, called by the Church to prayer, penance, fasting and self-sacrifice, place themselves before God and recognize themselves; they rediscover themselves.” —Pope St. John Paul II
We began our Lenten observance on Wednesday 5th March, with Ash Wednesday Liturgies for all students. Joined by Father George and Father Kris, students had the opportunity to receive ashes on their heads in the sign of the cross. This tradition can be traced back to the Old Testament, where the Israelites would cover themselves in ashes as a sign of mourning and repentance.
At All Saints, our Lenten observance includes the three pillars: prayer, fasting and almsgiving, which take place across the school.
Students across all years made prayer pledges for their respective year-group charities during RE lessons.
Additionally, every year group prayed the Stations of the Cross, either in the chapel, in the RE corridor, or outdoors, journeying with Christ through his passion and death.
Collectively, every form gathered tinned food to help restock our local St Vincent de Paul and parish food banks over the Easter holidays. Over 3200 tins were collected.
Our CAFOD Young Leaders ran a cake sale to raise money for CAFOD during lent.
