Key skills (subject specific) that are developed:

A qualification in work skills is designed to improve your understanding and application of employability skills.  You will also gain the knowledge, skills and understanding which are relevant, current and useful for you and your potential employers.  Work skills is about building you for the future.

 

KS4

Summary

Pearson BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Work Skills (GLH 130) – 601/9012/7)

Work Skills is made up of 9 internally assessed units, with no external exams sat.

Summary:

In year 10 you will begin developing your employability skills and you will begin to apply these in work-based scenarios.  You will begin to understand the importance of work place attitude and roles, all which will help you to prepare for any work experience when you may undertake.  We complete a number of units, each which is made up of a variety of different tasks which allow you to explore employability skills in more detail.

In year 10, we will complete the following units:

Autumn

Spring

Summer

  • Produce a CV
  • Skills and qualities for employability 


  • Preparing for a work placement
  • Conduct at work 
  • Numeracy for the work place

Summary:

In year 11, we begin to explore how to apply for jobs by looking at recruitment documents.  In addition, you will begin to understand how to complete these documents, allowing you to stand out in a competitive job environment.  In addition, we explore the work place in more detail and look at the importance of safe working environments.   We complete a number of units, each which is made up of a variety of different tasks which allow you to explore employability skills in more detail. 

In year 11, we will complete the following units.

  • Word processing software
  • Using a CV and covering letter to apply for a job 


  • Applying for jobs
  • Health and safety at work

KS5 Summary

In year 12 work skills, we begin to develop your employability skills and allow you to understand the recruitment process and how you can make yourself stand out from the rest.  Then we begin to explore how you can further improve your career potential by understanding how businesses operate and the role employees have within this.  Finally, we begin to develop life skills, by providing you with the chance to understand how to manage your own finances.  We complete a number of units, each which is made up of a variety of different tasks which allow you to explore employability skills in more detail. 

In year 12, we will complete the following units.

  • Developing your CV
  • Applying for job
  • Preparing for the recruitment process


  • Career progression
  • How and why businesses operate 
  • Managing your money
  • Healthy lifestyles

 

Please note: Year 12 Work Skills is a one -year course.
